Dentures and Partials
What are Dentures and Partials?
A full denture and partial can be used to replace areas in the mouth that are missing teeth. Full dentures are more suitable for patients who are missing an entire arch of their natural teeth. Partials are worn like an orthodontic retainer, and hold only several false teeth to replace just what’s missing. Both appliances can last for about seven years before needing replacement.
Why are Dentures and Partials Needed?
You may want or even need dentures if you’re missing a lot of teeth. Dentures are made to appear natural, mimicking the look of real teeth. They are made specifically to your own needs, and can fit perfectly when adjusted properly. Not only do dentures help with improving the look of your smile, but they’re necessary in improving overall oral functioning.
Who’s a good candidate for Dentures and Partials?
We will perform an exam to help determine if you’ll need a denture or a partial. It is not uncommon for patients to need extractions before any type of denture plate is made. Partials are best for patients who still have a lot of their natural teeth, while full dentures are ideal for patients who are missing an entire arch of teeth or who have advanced gum disease that will result in the loss of their teeth.
What happens during the Denture and Partial procedure?
You will come into our office for a consultation and exam. We’ll take a color match of your smile and take impressions of the teeth and gums. We then create a new denture plate for you, and you’ll come back in for a second appointment to have the denture placed. We’ll make a few slight adjustments to improve the fit and feel. You may need to come in for several adjustments before the fit of the denture is perfect for your smile. You can enjoy a gorgeous new prosthesis that lasts for years without needing any repairs or replacement.
If you think you may need a denture or a partial, call us today and we can get you in for a consultation appointment.
