Sleep Apnea Treatment in Virginia

What Is Sleep Apnea Treatment?

Sleep apnea is one of the most common sleep-related disorders in the world. The disorder occurs when there is an obstruction to the airway during sleep, preventing the person from breathing easily and properly throughout the night. This prevents the patient from going into a deep sleep and causes them to wake up at regular intervals throughout the night. We offer dental treatment for your sleep apnea, which involves wearing a simple oral appliance each night.

Contact our Virginia dentists to schedule an appointment. We have dental offices in four locations for your convenience: Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton Kecoughtan, and Hampton Coliseum.

Why is Sleep Apnea Treatment Needed?

The reason it’s important to treat your sleep apnea is that the condition can be detrimental to your health and overall well-being. By not getting a good night of rest each night, you’ll feel exhausted throughout your waking hours, may not have the ability to do daily activities, and may find it difficult to manage your health otherwise. If you’ve had a CPAP machine that you were dissatisfied with in the past, dental appliances are easier and more comfortable to use to treat your sleep apnea.

Who’s a Good Candidate for Sleep Apnea Treatment?

Patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea are good candidates for dental-related treatment of the disorder. We will perform an examination and help with conducting a sleep test to diagnose the disorder. From there, we’ll determine if an oral appliance is best suited for your sleep apnea needs. Treatment is only effective if you commit to wearing this device each and every night.

What Happens During the Process for Sleep Apnea Treatment?

You will come in for an exam and medical history review prior to being fitted for a new appliance. We then create impressions of your teeth and mouth that will be used to make your new appliance. We then fit you with the appliance to make sure it’s comfortable. You will be instructed on how and when to remove the appliance for it to be effective. If your new appliance begins to show signs of wear and tear, we can replace it to ensure you can continue to properly manage your sleep apnea treatment.
